Even more poingnant is :- The eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of the eleventh nomth and the eleventh year = 11/11/11/11 add another 11 for seconds.
We can look forward to next year 12 December 2012 ! 12/12/12
But Chris, you mean you'll be here to post a message on 11th Nov 2111???
Well, I'll be 160, possibly still here...but wil I remember what a computer is (or was) and will I remember who this funny old bloke from Bedford via France is?? lol
Of course today 11.11.11 at 11.11 Australia has a minute's silence in memory of all the men and women who died in the wars we have been invovled in. Dunno why it isn't eleven minutes silence????
I suppose I should have put a comma after NO, and less of this funny old bloke, I don't mind the old bloke bit, but I leave the others to be the funniy.............
I hope in 2111 we will all still be laughing at all the funnies that are being posted by future PCa blokes on here in that great big lounge in the sky.
No the next time this appears will be 2111.

ReplyDeleteTHE FINAL INSPECTION
ReplyDeleteThe soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
'Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek ?
To My Church have you been true?'
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God
'Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

Here is an extract from a poem written by a local Black Country poet in praise of the remembrance poppy.
ReplyDeleteFood for thought maybe.
"For honour remembered on each lapel,
For stories of valour kept for history to tell.
The colour so poignant, its hue signifies
That when old men argue it's the young man who dies.
The huge hands of silence and the bugle decrees
The respect for the brave lasts eternally.
Dear poppy, if only your presence ensured
That the blood of your petals brought an end to all wars"
Lest We Forget.
