You may find a free product called MalwareBytes will clean your system. technically the experts call some of these attacks malware rather than virus, all I know is it buggers up the system big time.
Google Malwarebytes to find the free download, it worked on my system to remove a similiar bug to the one you described, another product didn't even see the bug.
