Chemo deferrred.

Finally got to see "Sir" Oncologist yesterday...PSA now up to 13,was 12.4 four weeks ago,(6.4 when I finished last chemo course)  and as he says it ain't rocketing up and has decided  to leave it for three months before more chemo if it continues to rise,,,, for my own peace of mind I will have another PSA in four to six weeks just in case it does rocket.
Hey as long as I'm feeling good!
I had fully expected to start chemo on Friday and feel I have had a reprieve! LOL,although I will be prepared in three months.,,I asked about increasing my current Diethystilbestrol dose  I'm on,, but I'm on max and any further increase can cause clotting...
Cheers.

  2. Great result Phil. People seem to get very hung up on their PSA level, so I'm glad that you and your onco have a fairly open attitude to it. When I was trying IHT, my onco was quite happy to let it get up to 20 before restarting HT. Anyway, you're a model of how this thing can be controlled, and how chemo doesn't have to be such a big deal. Keep trucking!

P.S. Sorry to have been absent since Easter. Spent that with M-i-L, but she had bad back trouble and was not mobile, so we stayed down most of last week, and are likely to spend a couple of days each week down with her until it sorts itself out -- if it ever does; she's 92 and has a bad case of osteoporosis in her back.

  5. Hi Phil,
    Just catching up on news.
    Glad to see that reprieve.
Have all hormone treatments been checked after the last chemo? I gather it can re-activate some meds which may have failed in the past.
    Regards
    Rob

  6. Hi Rob what do you mean,,Zoladex and Casodex may work now???

  7. Maybe Phil. Just read somewhere that P.Ca. can become hormone responsive again after chemo.Zoladex & Co. tried again has produced results.
Also that chemo can work better second time round, even if failed first time. ( Not that your's failed mind you, as you had a good response.)
Why not post a question on PCC to see if anyone tried this ?

Oh, and do you take a blood thinner for DES such as baby asprin ?

  8. Cheers Rob,I would be loathe to go back on Zoladex but hey if it may work,, ,I will mention it to my Onco.

  9. Hi Phil,
Also worth checking Cholesterol ratio. Too much of the bad one MAY affect the P.Ca.
And are you on Vit. D3 ? ( You Northern folk probably get even less sun than us Southern climes !)
I currently take about 5000iu per day.
More minor treatments but it all adds up.

Your Onco may say the DES is doing the same job as Zoladex. But it isn't. Even trying Casodex again might work if you have been off it for a while.

  11. Got to keep our Administrators healthy Phil !

I also use fish oil supplements and eat oily fish as much as I can stand.
Even a tin of sardines in tomatoes sauce is good.
I'm fairly sure there is benefit in this type of regime, although boring at times. And of course little or no meat, dairy, eggs.
One can't do better than follow George with this type of regime.

    Cheers,
    Rob
