Which is best: a plastic snow shovel or a metal snow shovel?

Grivel could not decide either, so they combined the two materials, added a dose of common sense design and came up with a radical new snow shovel that looks set to become standard issue kit.

The new Grivel Steel Blade is described as the lightest in the world and features a metal cutting edge that is fitted to a plastic shovel. The shovel can be fitted into the shaft of an ice axe, which is such an obvious idea that it makes you wonder why others have not done it before.

Furthermore, you get side handles to the shovel, so you can use it without an ice axe handle and just shovel away the snow in the confines of a snow hole. These handle holes also mean the shovel can be easily stowed on the compression straps of a rucksack.

The Grivel Steel Blade is hitting the stores now, so check it out for home or mountain use

  23. Grivel Shovel??
Dread to think how much these will cost. Not much use with UK's limited snow and ice.
Better for Eskimo's and in the Arctic

    Sending this to Phil:-
